Happy (almost) December
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I’ve always loved Christmas. Whilst I did not grow up in a Christian home, I was always a spiritual sort of a person, and loved religious festivals. It seemed to me to be a time when everyone was at their best. Even the grumpiest of people would somehow transform with festive cheer. Scrooge from a Christmas Carol is brought to mind.
Just like dear old Ebinezer, the wear and tear of life can easily overshadow the joy, love and kindness that is part of our essential nature. Yet, the light is always shining in our hearts, no matter how dark the ‘stuff’ that masks it becomes. When we are committed to embody that light, the world around us changes. Our kindness brings technicolour to the lives of those we love, and all those we come into contact with.
Clearing the darkness is not always easy. Many of us have suffered real hardship and real trauma. But, the promise of yoga (and actually most faiths too), is that we can come back into relationship with this light within at anytime. The light itself has the power to dispel darkness. And, it is there all along. There is nothing really to learn or change, only something to rediscover.
In this month of the Winter Solstice when we celebrate the shortest and darkest day of the year, and the beginning of lighter days to come, we will focus on tuning into our inner light.
Sending lots of love and Om. I hope to see you soon.
Warm wishes
Ayesha
